Job Description:
PLM / Siemens Teamcenter Technical Engineer (IT – Engineering Systems)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled PLM / Siemens Teamcenter Technical Engineer to support and manage a large-scale enterprise PLM environment used by 15,000–20,000 engineering and supplier users. The role sits within the IT organization supporting Engineering, working closely with design engineers, process partners, and manufacturing teams.
This is not a developer-only role and not a pure lead role, but a strong technical engineering position requiring deep understanding of Teamcenter, IT systems, and engineering workflows.
The ideal candidate must be hands-on, autonomous, technically strong, and capable of interacting confidently with engineering users and business partners.
Key Responsibilities
Teamcenter Application & PLM Support
• Serve as the primary technical engineer for Siemens Teamcenter within Engineering IT.
• Manage and support various Teamcenter programs (e.g., Data Exchange, Foundation, Security, BOM, etc.).
• Perform hands-on Teamcenter configuration, customization, BMIDE work, and functional enhancements.
• Support integrations between Teamcenter and CAD/CAE systems and other enterprise data systems.
• Troubleshoot issues related to multi-site Teamcenter architecture and synchronization.
Systems & Infrastructure Responsibilities
• Work across application, middleware, database, and infrastructure layers connected to Teamcenter.
• Understand and operate in Windows server/client environments and cloud-based setups.
• Execute SQL queries, basic scripting (PowerShell/Python), and perform data extraction.
• Understand networking fundamentals, security concepts, and enterprise-level IT standards.
• Coordinate with internal IT teams (security, network, DB, applications) as needed.
Data Management & Engineering Workflows
• Understand Bill of Materials (BOM) structure, CAD data management, workflows, and search processes.
• Support large engineering assemblies, heavy design datasets, and downstream usage in manufacturing & aftermarket.
• Engage in discussions with engineering teams to interpret requirements and translate them into Teamcenter solutions.
• Challenge business requirements when appropriate, providing technical and functional guidance.
User & Stakeholder Collaboration
• Partner with process owners and business teams (Engineering & Manufacturing).
• Work closely with design engineers; understand engineering terminology and context.
• Communicate clearly, hold independent conversations, and avoid order-taking behavior.
• Act as a bridge between IT and Engineering, ensuring PLM stability, scalability, and performance.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Skills
• 5–6+ years hands-on experience with Siemens Teamcenter (configuration + customization + system understanding)
• Strong knowledge of:
• BMIDE, workflows, handlers, preferences.
• Teamcenter multi-site, replication, and data sync.
• CAD integrations (Solid Edge, NX, Creo, etc.—exposure sufficient).
• Data extraction, SQL queries, basic programming/scripting.
• Application servers, middleware, and Windows server/client environments.
• Basic networking/security fundamentals.
• Experience with large-scale enterprise PLM deployments is strongly preferred.
Functional & Engineering Knowledge
• Good understanding of:
• Engineering design processes.
• BOM management, CAD/CAE data, revisions, and product lifecycle flows.
• Ability to understand problems in engineering terms and connect them to Teamcenter functionalities.
Interpersonal & Professional Skills
• Ability to communicate with engineering users in their language.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to work independently without step-by-step instructions.
• Comfortable handling high-criticality environments where a small issue can impact thousands of users.
• Experience working in complex global organizations is a plus.
Nice-to-Have
• Background in engineering/manufacturing domains (machines, engines, components).
• Experience with enterprise data systems (EDS/EDL) or Snowflake/Databricks.
• Prior exposure to client or similar large OEM environments.
Role Characteristics
• Not a “developer only” role; requires both technical depth and system-level understanding.
• Not a managerial or senior lead role but requires leadership in technical decision-making.
• High visibility position supporting mission-critical engineering systems.
• Requires a blend of IT systems knowledge, Teamcenter expertise, and engineering workflow understanding.
