Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Architect with 15 to 18 years of experience in RPG/400 and RPGLE AS/400 Utilities AS400 Modernization delivery AS400 CL AS/400 RPG and AS/400 CL, IBMDB2. The ideal candidate will have domain expertise in (Please mention Domain and areas to be in expert). This  role requires a strong technical background and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
 
Responsibilities:
Lead the design and development of AS/400 applications using RPG/400 and RPGLE to ensure robust and scalable solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to AS/400 applications.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical architecture and design.
Ensure seamless integration of AS/400 applications with other enterprise systems.
Review existing legacy applications and recommend enhancements, optimizations, or modernization approaches.
Define best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines for RPG/AS400 development.
Work closely with business stakeholders and domain experts from the (Domain) to ensure solutions are aligned with business goals.
Provide technical leadership to development teams and mentor junior engineers.
Participate in system integration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of complex production issues.
Stay updated with evolving RPG technologies and AS400 tools, ensuring best-in-class design and development standards.
 
Skills:
18+ years of total experience in software development, with strong expertise in RPG (RPG IV / ILE / Free Format) on AS400 / IBM iSeries, along with working knowledge of PCML.
Strong knowledge of SDLC, architectural patterns, and legacy system modernization strategies.
Ability to create architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and solution proposals.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Exposure to integration with modern platforms using APIs, web services, or middleware.
Familiarity with modernization tools or techniques (e.g., transitioning to Java/.NET or cloud platforms).
Experience with data migration, batch processing, or system interfacing in insurance platforms.

  • Develops emerging technology adoption strategies, makes decisions related to emerging technology architecture and design.

Architecture tools and frameworks:

  • Has expert knowledge of architecture Industry tools & frameworks with accreditation/certification in the relevant areas.
  • Ability to tailor architectural methods, tools selection & customization as per need.
  • Can independently make decisions in tool selection process and provide future direction for tools and framework selection.

Design Principles and Implementation:

  • Specialized knowledge on design principles and implementation methodologies.
  • Can lead the design process for complex projects.
  • Develop innovative solutions and adapt to changing technology trends.
  • Mentor others in the team on design best practices.

Product/ Technology Knowledge:

  • Implement code or configure/customize products, drive adoption of industry standards and practices, and contribute to development of reusable assets and innovative solutions.
  • Work on complex modules independently.
  • Analyze various frameworks/tools and present recommendations, contribute to development of training and certification material, and demonstrate thought leadership through whitepapers and webinars.

Estimation and Resource Planning:           

  • Consolidate estimates at a solution level, evaluate risks, and validate estimates from a technical standpoint, assumptions, scope, and boundaries defined.
  • Conduct resource planning at a project level based on project requirements, considering pyramid and skill requirements.
  • Can create a Cost Benefit Model (ROI) for resource planning and conduct impact analysis for changes and its impact to overall estimates.

S/w Engineering Principles & Best Practices:

  • In-depth understanding of multiple programming languages and frameworks.
  • Mastery of software design principles, architectural patterns, and scalability concepts with various testing methodologies, including unit, integration, and acceptance testing.
  • Designs and architects’ complex software systems, considering scalability, performance, and security.
  • Leads code reviews and mentor’s junior developers.
  • Manages complex technical projects and collaborates with stakeholders effectively.
