Role Summary

We are seeking a visionary GCP Data Architect to lead the design, evolution, and governance of our enterprise data ecosystem. In this role, you will act as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution, transforming complex requirements into scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud-native solutions. You will be responsible for championing modern architectural patterns like Data Lakehouse and Data Mesh to ensure our data remains "AI-ready" for next-generation workloads.

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Strategic Architecture & Design

• Blueprint Design: Define the end-to-end data architecture on Google Cloud, including ingestion, storage, processing, and consumption layers.
• Modernization: Lead the transition from legacy batch-heavy systems to unified batch-and-streaming architectures.
• Data Lakehouse: Implement "Lakehouse" patterns using BigQuery and BigLake to unify structured and unstructured data.
• AI Readiness: Architect data foundations that specifically support Vertex AI and Generative AI agents.

2. Data Engineering & Governance

• Pipeline Orchestration: Design robust ETL/ELT workflows using Cloud Composer (Airflow) or Dataflow (Apache Beam).
• Governance as Code: Implement automated data quality, lineage, and cataloging using Dataplex and Data Catalog.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure "Secure-by-Design" principles, managing IAM, encryption, and PII redaction (using DLP API) to meet global regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).

3. Operational Excellence (FinOps & DataOps)

• Cost Optimization: Apply FinOps principles to monitor and optimize GCP spend, leveraging BigQuery slots, auto-scaling, and lifecycle policies.
• DataOps: Establish CI/CD for data pipelines and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform.
• Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance (BigQuery, AlloyDB, Cloud Bigtable) to ensure low-latency SLAs.

Experience & Certifications

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience: * 12+ years in Data Engineering/Architecture roles.
• 3+ years specifically architecting solutions on Google Cloud Platform.
• Proven experience in managing large-scale data migrations (on-prem to cloud or multi-cloud).
• Preferred Certifications:
• Google Professional Data Engineer (Highly Recommended).
• Google Professional Cloud Architect.
• Google Professional Cloud Database Engineer.

Soft Skills

• Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the "big picture" while understanding granular technical constraints.
• Stakeholder Management: Communicating technical roadmaps to C-suite executives and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentorship: Experience leading and upskilling data engineering teams.
