Job Description: Lead Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer
Experience Level: 8 to 10 Years (specifically 1-2 years in Microsoft Fabric)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior / Lead Microsoft Fabric Data Engineer to architect and lead the delivery of enterprise-scale data platforms on Microsoft Fabric. You will own end-to-end solution design across Lakehouse, Warehouse, and Real-Time Intelligence, set engineering standards, mentor a team of data engineers, and partner with client architects and business leaders to translate strategy into delivery. This role is ideal for a seasoned data engineering leader with deep Azure and Spark/SQL expertise who has been building on Fabric and is ready to drive Fabric-led modernization programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Solution Architecture: Lead solution design for Microsoft Fabric platforms (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, and Real-Time Intelligence) across multiple workstreams.
  • Platform Standards: Define and govern Medallion architecture standards, OneLake organization, workspace topology, capacity sizing, and naming/coding conventions.
  • Modernization: Lead migration and modernization programs from legacy stacks (on-prem DW, Synapse, Databricks, Informatica, etc.) to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a pod of 5–10 data engineers; conduct design reviews, code reviews, and technical coaching.
  • Client Engagement: Partner with client architects, data owners, and business stakeholders during discovery, estimation, and roadmap definition.
  • Hands-on Delivery: Own the build of complex pipelines and semantic models for high-volume, high-velocity, and regulated workloads.
  • DevOps Leadership: Establish CI/CD, environment strategy (Dev/Test/Prod), Git branching, and release management for Fabric artifacts using Azure DevOps / GitHub.
  • Governance: Define enterprise data governance with Microsoft Purview — cataloging, lineage, classification, sensitivity labels, RLS/OLS, and access models.
  • Performance & Cost: Lead capacity planning, cost optimization, performance tuning, and reliability engineering for Fabric workloads.
  • Innovation: Stay current with the Fabric roadmap and bring new capabilities (Direct Lake, Mirroring, Copilot, AI functions, etc.) into delivery.

Must-Have Skills
  • Experience: 10+ years of overall data engineering / data platform experience, including 3+ years in a Lead or Architect capacity.
  • Microsoft Fabric: 1–2 years of hands-on experience on Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, OneLake, and semantic models).
  • Spark & Delta Lake: Deep expertise in PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake, including performance tuning at scale.
  • SQL: Expert-level SQL — query optimization, indexing, partitioning strategies, and warehouse design.
  • Azure: Strong Azure data ecosystem experience — ADF, ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL, Synapse, and Key Vault.
  • Architecture: Proven experience designing Medallion / Lakehouse architectures and dimensional models (star/snowflake, SCDs, conformed dimensions).
  • Power BI: Working knowledge of Power BI — Direct Lake, semantic modeling, DAX, and enterprise reporting patterns.
  • DevOps: Experience leading CI/CD, Git workflows, and deployment pipelines for data platforms.
  • Leadership: Track record of leading delivery teams, mentoring engineers, and managing client stakeholders.

Good-to-Have Skills
  • Migrations: Experience with Databricks, Synapse Analytics, or Snowflake, particularly in migration scenarios to Fabric.
  • Real-Time Data: Hands-on with Real-Time Intelligence in Fabric (KQL, Eventstreams, Activator).
  • Governance Tools: Exposure to Microsoft Purview, Unity Catalog, or Collibra for enterprise governance.
  • Domain Expertise: Experience in Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Healthcare, or BFSI.
  • Niche Leadership: Delivery leadership experience in Logistics, Driver Management, or Labour Management.
  • SAP Integration: Experience leading data integration with SAP source systems (SAP ECC / S/4HANA / BW) including CDS views, ODP, SLT, or third-party connectors into Fabric/Azure.
  • Certifications: Microsoft certifications: DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer Associate), DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer), or DP-203.
  • Pre-sales: Support pre-sales (solutioning, effort estimation, SOW inputs, RFP responses, and Fabric proof-of-concepts).

Soft Skills
  • Strong consulting and client management skills; comfortable engaging with senior client stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate business outcomes into technical roadmaps and delivery plans.
  • People leadership — coaching, mentoring, and growing engineering talent.
  • Bias for action, structured problem-solving, and a quality-first mindset.

Education
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications strongly preferred.
